Open house at museums in Ostrobothnia on Museum day, 23 August

The participating museums will hold an Open House on Sunday 23 August. Some will also have guides on hand to tell visitors about the museum and its activities. Museums will also organise additional activities to mark the occasion.

In Vaasa, the participating museums include: Museum of Old Vaasa, Vaasa Maritime Museum, Vähäkyrö Museum, Fyrry Tinsmith Museum as well as the Toola Sausage and Slaughterhouse Museum, which is a new addition this year.

Museum Day in Ostrobothnia is being organised for the third time this year, with a record number of museums taking part.

– The aim of Museum Day is to attract new visitors to museums and make it as easy as possible for people to participate. Last year’s event was a great success with the public, says Kaj Höglund, Provincial Curator for Vaasa Museums, which serves as the museum with regional responsibility for Ostrobothnia.

Ostrobothnia Museum Day is part of European Heritage Days. The theme for 2026 is ‘Heritage at Risk’. South Ostrobothnia and Central Ostrobothnia will also hold their own Museum Day events on the same day.
