Part of Ratakatu to close temporarily from 18 May

One lane of Ratakatu, when driving from the main library towards the railway station, will be closed for renovation work from 18 to 29 May 2026. The lane in the opposite direction will remain largely in normal use, and the work will not affect pedestrians or cyclists.
Vaasa Water will be carrying out renovation works on Ratakatu, on the section between Kirjastonkatu and Pitkäkatu, for a period of two weeks. For the duration of the work, one lane of this section of the street will be closed for safety reasons. Motor traffic will be diverted from the Kirjastonkatu junction onto a diversion route via Kauppapuistikko and Hietasaarenkatu. The opposite lane, from the railway station towards the main library, will remain in use with a reduced speed limit.
In addition to the lane closure, the pedestrian crossing at the Pitkäkatu-Ratakatu junction will be out of use, and the traffic lights at the junction will flash amber for the duration of the works. Apart from the pedestrian crossing, cyclists and pedestrians can use this section of the street as normal.
During the works, public transport line 4V from Gerby will operate on an alternative route via Kirkkopuistikko, Hietasaarenkatu and Pitkäkatu. However, the closure of Ratakatu will not affect the bus stops along the route.
