Rowing boats are available to borrow at Ukkokari and in Vähäkyrö
Published: 19.6.2025
Vaasa residents selected rowing boats available for borrowing as this year’s participatory budgeting project. Rowing boats are now available to borrow free of charge at Ukkokari and in Vähäkyrö. A third rowing boat will be available in Onkilahti in July.
The City of Vaasa has acquired three rowing boats and life jackets, which can be borrowed free of charge from the Onkilahti café, the Ukkokari restaurant in Gerby, and Café Kanttorila in Vähäkyrö.
The rowing boats at Ukkokari and Vähäkyrö will be available to borrow by Midsummer.
Rowers will have to wait a little longer for the boat at Onkilahti, as a jetty still needs to be installed on the shore. The aim is to complete the new boat landing, which will be located near the outdoor gym, during week 33.
The boats can be borrowed during opening hours
Each rowing boat can be borrowed for up to two hours at a time. Borrowers must be at least 18 years old. Each boat can accommodate a maximum of four people.
Boats can be borrowed during the opening hours of each location. The boats are locked, and the key along with the mandatory life jackets can be collected from the respective locations.
Opening hours:
- Saaristoravintola Ukkokari: Please check the opening hours on the restaurant’s website.
- Café Kanttorila, Vähäkyrö: Tue-Sun from 12–18
- Café Onkilahti: Please note: The boat will be available from week 33 onwards!
Residents take part in developing their local environment
The aim of participatory budgeting is to involve citizens in developing their living environment and to increase awareness of how public funds can be used.
This year, €15,000 was allocated for participatory budgeting.
Previous participatory budgeting projects have included a cherry orchard, a wildflower meadow, a winter swimming spot, and additional benches and bins along the Waterfront Route.
