Schools start on 12 August in Vaasa

School starts in Vaasa's comprehensive schools on Wednesday 12 August 2026. Both adults and schoolchildren should exercise extra caution in traffic.
Around 570 children will start Year 1 in Vaasa this autumn.

The start of the school year will affect traffic in many ways, and there are things that every driver needs to be aware of. Even a small reduction in speed may give you more time to anticipate situations and react to what is happening around you.
Adults should be especially alert in the following places and situations:
- Areas around schools and school car parks: children do not always remember to look around them, and they may be difficult to see from a car.
- Pedestrian crossings: vegetation or buildings may obstruct visibility.
- Cyclists riding along the edge of the road: a child may lose their balance and suddenly veer into the road.
- Bus stops: children may suddenly dart across the road, including from behind a bus.
