Youth Council elections 10–12 November 2026

The list of candidates for the Youth Council elections will be published in early October, and the elections will be held on 11–12 November.

Voting will take place electronically at schools on 10–11 November. On the third day of the elections, 12 November, it will still be possible to vote in person at Youth Centre Kultsa.

Every young person registered as a resident of Vaasa who is in Year 7 or above at school and aged 20 or under is entitled to vote.

A total of 22 full members and 10 substitute members will be elected to the Youth Council. Youth Council elections are held every two years.

Giving young people a voice

The Vaasa Youth Council is the most direct way for young people to have a say in the city’s decision-making. The Youth Council’s activities are diverse, and international cooperation has also increased in recent years.

– For example, the Erasmus+ project with the youth councils of Vaasa’s sister cities of Kherson and Kiel was very interesting. The Youth Council gives young people an opportunity to have a say in matters that affect them and ensures that young people’s voices are heard in the city’s decision-making. I encourage everyone who is interested to stand as a candidate, says Chair Santiago Laitinen.

The aim of the Youth Council is to represent and promote the views of young people in decision-making. A representative of the Youth Council has the right to attend and speak at City Council meetings and meetings of five city boards. Youth councillors may also put forward initiatives and express opinions on current issues.

The Youth Council also has its own annual budget, which is used to organise fun activities for young people and provide annual grants for various youth projects.
