Street lighting upgrade under way in central Vaasa – affecting on-street parking

Street lighting upgrade work will take place on Kirkkopuistikko and Hovioikeudenpuistikko from 28 September to 9 October 2026. The existing street lights will be replaced with smart, environmentally friendly LED lights.
The installation work will be carried out on weekday evenings and overnight, from 18.00 to 6.00, to minimise disruption. Work will be carried out in phases:
- Kirkkopuistikko, from Vaasa Church to the beginning of Wolffintie, 28 September–2 October.
- Hovioikeudenpuistikko, between Raastuvankatu and Rantakatu, 5–9 October.
No parking in the evenings and overnight
Temporary parking restrictions will be in place in the work areas between 18.00 and 6.00 to allow sufficient space for construction vehicles and other traffic. Motorists are asked to follow the traffic signs in the area. Any vehicles left in the work area may be removed if necessary.
During the day, parking spaces can be used as normal.
Traffic delays are possible
Work vehicles will be operating on the carriageway, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes where possible.
Pedestrian and cycle paths will remain open as usual.
There may be brief, localised interruptions to street lighting during the installation work. An entire street will not be without lighting at any point.
