Take the cycling survey and help make Vaasa even more cycling-friendly!

Published: 22.10.2026

The City of Vaasa has invested in better walking and cycling conditions this year, with improvements including new bicycle repair stands and the replacement of the Vaskiluoto walking and cycling bridge. Now Vaasa is collecting residents’ views on cycling conditions through a survey. All respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win a free seasonal bike service.

The resident satisfaction survey will be conducted twice a year until the end of 2029.

– The survey collects information on the current situation, and also helps us see how resident satisfaction is developing and whether we are focusing on the right areas. It will also allow us to compare the results for summer and winter, and to identify areas for improvement sooner, says Samuli Huusko, project engineer for cycling and walking.

The survey is open until 5 November 2026 and only takes a couple of minutes to complete. All respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win a free seasonal bike service. If you wish to participate in the prize draw, please provide your contact details when completing the survey.

You can also complete the survey at Citizen Services located in Tammipiha (Teräksenkuja 1) and at the Vähäkyrö joint service point (Vähänkyröntie 11) during their opening hours.

This year, we especially welcome responses from children under 15. UNICEF has awarded Vaasa the Child‑Friendly Municipality recognition as a sign that children’s wellbeing and rights are at the top of the city’s priorities.

2026 brought several improvements

This summer, new bicycle repair stands were installed across Vaasa, making it easy to carry out minor repairs and adjustments while out cycling. The stands are located in Onkilahti Park, the Inner Harbour car park and the bicycle parking facility at the Travel Centre.

Currently, kerbs at pedestrian crossings are being lowered at 37 junctions across the city. Lower kerbs make it easier to get around and reduce the risk of damage to bicycles.

One of this year’s biggest investments was the new Vaskiluoto walking and cycling bridge, which opened in September. The wider bridge makes it easier to get around all year round, as improved winter maintenance keeps it more accessible during the colder months.

Cycling conditions also improved in Old Vaasa, where Postikatu was converted into a 2-1 road with two advisory cycle lanes. On a 2–1 road, cyclists have more space than usual on both sides of the road.

Vaasa is committed to improving conditions for walking and cycling in the long term. The survey responses will help identify areas for future improvement.

Promoting cycling is part of Vaasa’s Green Leaf 2026 programme and supports the city’s Child Friendly Municipality status. Cycling plays a major role in delivering both themes: it boosts the wellbeing of people of all ages while also reducing emissions from transport.
