Temporary traffic arrangements at the junction of Vaasanpuistikko and Raastuvankatu until 18 June

Published: 5.5.2026

Traffic light cabling works are being carried out at the junction of Vaasanpuistikko and Raastuvankatu 5 May–18 June 2026. The work will disrupt traffic, and the junction is likely to be more congested than usual. The City of Vaasa advises the public to avoid the junction if possible.

The traffic lights at the junction will be out of operation during the works. The speed limit has been reduced, and at times only one lane may be open along Vaasanpuistikko. Drivers are asked to be extra cautious and to watch out for pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians and cyclists should also proceed with caution at the junction.

The traffic lights will be switched back on once the works are completed, no later than 18 June.

Work will also be carried out at night

Excavation work will be carried out at night to avoid heavy daytime traffic. The work will cause some noise, which may temporarily disturb sleep at night.

Cabling work will also be carried out during the day.

Old cables will be replaced

The traffic light cabling is being renewed because the existing cables have reached the end of their service life. In the event of a fault, the old cables have no spare conductors, meaning the traffic lights cannot be switched on.

The City of Vaasa and the contractor apologise for the inconvenience and thank the public for their understanding. The work is carried out by Sähköliike SähköWaasa Oy.
