The city’s statutory co-operation negotiations have concluded

Published: 8.5.2025

The City of Vaasa’s statutory co-operation negotiations have now concluded. The negotiations were held in connection with the reorganisation of operations following the transfer of employment services and associated transfer of undertakings.

The state’s TE services were transferred to municipalities on 1 January 2025. As a result, the City of Vaasa will organise employment services in cooperation with the other municipalities in the Ostrobothnia Employment Area: Kaskinen, Korsnäs, Laihia, Maalahti, Mustasaari, Närpiö, Uusikaarlepyy and Vöyri.

As part of the reform, the staff of the Ostrobothnia TE office transferred to the City of Vaasa, retaining their current roles and job titles. A few employees also transferred from the Ostrobothnia ELY Centre and KEHA Centre. As a result, just over 80 new employees have joined the city’s workforce.

The City of Vaasa acts as the lead municipality in the Ostrobothnia Employment Area and began co-operation negotiations on 10 February 2025 due to the reorganisation of operations resulting from the transfer of employment services and the associated transfer of undertakings. Two rounds of co-operation negotiations have previously been held in relation to the reform.

Up to six employees are affected by the redundancies

The negotiations, which concluded on 28 April, addressed the impacts of the transfer of employment services and related undertakings, particularly on the roles and job descriptions of staff in corporate governance, as well as more broadly on the entire municipal organisation.

The negotiations concluded that any potential redundancies would affect up to six individuals in various roles. All those at risk of redundancy will be offered alternative employment as an alternative to dismissal.
