The Crown Princess Couple’s visit to Vaasa: schedule and traffic arrangements

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will visit Vaasa on 21 August 2026 to mark the 250th anniversary of Vaasa Court of Appeal. Members of the public will have a chance to greet the royal couple in Hovioikeudenpuisto Park and along Hovioikeudenpuistikko on Friday morning.

The royal guests will arrive at Vaasa Court of Appeal on Friday morning, 21 August. The visit will last approximately one hour.

King Gustav III of Sweden founded Vaasa Court of Appeal in 1775. It was the second court of appeal in Finland after Turku and began operating by royal decree on 21 August 1776.

Schedule for the public and media:

  • 10.15 – The visit to the Court of Appeal ends.
  • 10.15–10.20 – The Crown Princess will plant a tree in Hovioikeudenpuisto Park to mark the anniversary and the royal couple’s visit to Vaasa (location is marked on the map).
  • 10.20–10.35 – The royal couple will walk along Hovioikeudenpuistikko (the route from Rantakatu to Lyseonkatu is marked on the map).
  • The royal couple will walk along the gravel path in the centre of the boulevard.
  • Members of the public will be able to greet the royal couple on the south side of Hovioikeudenpuistikko, meaning the Tikanoja Art Museum side of the boulevard.
  • Hovioikeudenpuistikko will be closed to motor traffic, and members of the public can also follow the royal couple’s progress from the street.
  • The northern side of the boulevard will be closed to the public.

At Lyseonkatu, the royal couple will get into a car that will take them past City Hall to Vaskiluoto. At Wärtsilä, the Crown Princess Couple will visit the technology centre and hear about developments in carbon-neutral shipping and energy production.

The visit will end with a lunch hosted by the City of Vaasa at the Governor’s House.

Part of Hovioikeudenpuistikko will be closed to traffic

Hovioikeudenpuistikko will be closed to motor traffic between Rantakatu and Kirkkopuistikko from approximately 10.00 to 10.45. Traffic control measures will be in place in the area.

Parking will also be prohibited along this section of road from Thursday to Friday, 20–21 August. The parking restriction will end on Friday afternoon, 21 August, after the royal visit.

Residents are asked to avoid driving in the area between 10.00 and 11.00.

Flying drones is prohibited in the area where the visit takes place.
