Kestävän liikkumisen ohjelman päivitys, SUMP

The City of Vaasa has a Sustainable Mobility Programme, completed in 2019, which sets out Vaasa’s goals and measures for promoting sustainable mobility. Implementation of the programme is off to a strong start, with many of its measures already in place. However, Vaasa must further reduce transport emissions to meet its carbon neutrality target, which is why work on a sustainable transport system should continue in a coordinated, long-term manner. Moreover, the world as well as planning priorities have changed over the past five years. This development has made it necessary to update Vaasa’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP). The purpose of the programme update is to review its objectives to ensure they align with the new city strategy and current development trends, and to set out new measures for achieving these objectives. The guiding principle of the work is cross-sectoral collaboration within the city organisation, as well as with other stakeholders and decision-makers. Collaboration and active engagement help to build and strengthen a shared understanding and commitment to the objectives and measures developed, already while the work is underway. The outcome of the work will be a shared, city-wide vision for promoting sustainable mobility, together with clear guidance on how this joint vision will be put into practice.

The project will draw on existing resident surveys and, if necessary, carry out a new survey. A workshop will be held for the City Council and other stakeholders to confirm the project’s objectives and define the related measures. The aim of the workshop is to engage politicians in particular and secure their commitment to the programme.

The project’s target group includes Vaasa’s residents and local businesses.
