Puddle - Open program for families with children

Week 40 | 1 – 4 October

Come sing and recite rhymes together with your baby on Thursdays at the children’s section of the Main Library! 

 

1 Oct. | Puddle Opening Event | 17-19.30 | Main Library, Kirjastonkatu 13 | Free entry 

At 18, the Drama Hall will host an amazing performance by magician Kari. We are also celebrating the 100th anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh with a varied programme, including Owl’s quiz and a picture trail. 

The programme also includes dance performances by TaiKon and a cheerleading performance by the West Coast Vikings. You can also take part in TaiKon’s community art project Shine Together with Others. Eläkkeensaajien Polkkarinki will also invite everyone to dance the traditional Puddle Polka together.

There are plenty of self-guided activities to enjoy, including the Good mood trail, the Lorunen rhyme-writing campaing and Message in a Bottle. At Studio Puddle, you can play the Puddle board game and try to solve the Eye of the Storm escape game, among other activities. Studio Puddle has been decorated by the Pikku Kasarmi and Satamapuisto daycare centres together with Youth Services. 

If you are feeling peckish, the Main Library’s Café Proosa will be open throughout the opening event!

Come and explore Marja Pirilä’s Camera Obscura exhibition.

V like Vaasa – what makes up the Vaasa identity? Let’s create Valphabet, Vaasa’s very own alphabet, together! In the workshop, you can write and draw as you like. 

 

3 Oct. | Art Splash: Vips the Shrew’s adventures | 10.30–13 | Main Library, Drama Hall and Park, Kirjastonkatu 13 | Family event | Free entry | Finnish, Swedish and English 

Spend a fun autumn day with Vips the Shrew! The indoor and outdoor adventures, organized by Kvarkens naturskola, offer playful and active activities for the whole family.

Studio Puddle, a shared living room for the whole family, will be open throughout October. This year, the children of the Pikku Kasarmi and Satamapuisto daycare centers, together with summer artists from Youth Services, have created the set design and decorations for Studio Puddle. The Eye of the Storm escape game is created by class 6A of Länsimetsä School. You are also warmly welcome to come and play the Puddle board game!

The Kuula Institute’s student concert takes you on a musical journey filled with delightful melodies. 

 

6 Oct. | Let’s Celebrate Friendship Skills! | 18-19.30 | Main Library Drama Hall, Kirjastonkatu 13 | For ages 10+ and guardians | Free entry | Swedish 

The event combines expert perspectives with short scenes created by TaiKon’s theatre arts students. The students will perform everyday interaction situations from young people’s lives. The scenes will then be discussed together with the audience. 

In cooperation with: City of Vaasa Culture and Library Services, City of Vaasa Wellbeing Services, TaiKon and MIELI Ostrobothnia Mental Health Association.

Welcome to the Family Morning at Vähäkyrö Library! The programmer includes a Rhyme Bath from 10–10.30 for babies under 1 year old and their parents. Come sing and recite rhymes together with your baby! Older children can enjoy drop-in arts and crafts activities, while adults can learn more about the library’s services and collections. Light refreshments will be served.

In multi-instrumentalist Julius Rantala’s concerts, participants can discover unusual instruments and unique ways of making music. In the workshop, you can immerse yourself in the world of watercolor painting.

Families can bring their soft toys for a sleepover at the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art. At 13.00, there will be a storytime in Finnish in the museum library.

Guided exhibition tours at 11.00 and 13.00 in Finnish, and at 12.00 and 14.00 in Swedish. An open workshop will be held in the Kuntsi Studio, where participants can paint with watercolours inspired by light. 

 

15 Oct. | Let’s sing at Puddle – children’s songs sing-along | 18–19.30 | Drama Hall, Main Library, Kirjastonkatu 13 | Family event | Free entry | Finnish, Swedish and English 

Sing children’s songs together with community musician Aila Ala-Aho. In the workshop, you can make your own rhythm instrument. Please bring a small container with a lid or something similar.

16 Oct. | Family adventure tour: Marja Pirilä – Camera Obscura | 11–15 | Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, Inner Harbour | Suitable for ages 3+ | Free for under 18-year-olds, adults 15/€9, free with a Museum or Kaiku Card 

On this interactive tour, we explore the artworks from different perspectives and angles. Cardboard frames help participants look at the works with fresh eyes. At the end of the tour, we share our observations and thoughts in a group discussion. 

Tours in Finnish at 11.00 and 13.00, and in Swedish at 12.00 and 14.00.

On the National Day of Fairytales, we celebrate the name day of Puddle’s very own Sea Monster! Enjoy stories and adventures both indoors and outdoors, inspired by the Sea Monster.

Science workshop with an economics theme. Come and explore different activity stations related to the environment and consumption habits, learn about saving money, and play an economics-themed game. At the Science workshop, you can also use a pipette to experiment with a coin and test your consumption habits.

21 Oct. | Teddy Bear Hospital | 17-19 | MLL Vaasa local association premises, Sepänkyläntie 4 | Free entry 

Is your soft toy or another toy friend feeling unwell? Bring your friend to the Teddy Bear Hospital, organised by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Finnish Red Cross. There teddy bears and other toy patients will receive care and attention. 

In cooperation with: Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and Finnish Red Cross Vaasa’s sections.  

 

24 Oct. | Mitt och Ditt och Mitt | 16–17 | Wasa Teater, Hietasaarenkatu 7 | Age recommendation 4–8 years | Child €10 and adult €12 | Swedish 

In the play, a story is played out about the kind Haralsson, who finds it difficult to stand up for himself and dares to speak up. How will Haralsson dare to stand up for himself so that he does not simply get overridden by the wishes of others? 

 

23–25 Oct. | Pikku Aasi – International Puppet Theatre Festival | Main Library Drama Hall, Kirjastonkatu 13 | Tickets €8/10 at netticket.fi | Finnish and Italian 

The Pikku Aasi Puppet Theatre Festival features five captivating puppet theatre groups from different parts of the world. The festival also offers free activities, such as petting the donkeys Teresina and Martta, a workshop and a pedal car track.
