Born in Pietarsaari in 1903, Heidi Sundblad-Halme had a varied life as a composer, music teacher, and director of the Helsinki Women’s Orchestra. Sundblad-Halme’s forgotten orchestral suite, dating back to 1937, can now be heard with ears at least as fresh as the sparkling new Chamber Symphony by Sebastian Fagerlund, a composer familiar to audiences in Vaasa. In the hands of Liza Ferschtman, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto also sounds as fresh as a mountain stream.
