How does the most talented generation of young musicians interpret classics? We find out in the sparkling encounter of two recent competition winners on–stage. French Nathanaël Iselin won first prize in the Jorma Panula Conducting Competition in Vaasa in 2021, and Polish Piotr Pawlak – also an accomplished mathematician – recently won the Maj Lind Piano Competition in Helsinki. Iselin’s career has taken off strongly after the competition, and Pawlak is expected to become a new star of the piano world.

The audience is treated to refreshing and inspired interpretations of great composers’ mature works: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sunny Piano Concerto No. 23 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s 8th Symphony. The opera Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten receives new forms in British Sally Beamish’s imaginative variations.
