Suomalaisen musiikin viikko
Vaasa City Orchestra
cond. Kyösti Vesterinen
sol. Albert Sahlström, violin
The music of our country has always been international. Ernst Fabritius, one of Finland’s most gifted violinists of the 19th century, studied in the musical metropolis of Leipzig, while just over half a century later Helvi Leiviskä studied in Vienna, the city of radical new ideas. Einojuhani Rautavaara and Magnus Lindberg, among Finland’s most significant composers on a global scale, are true cosmopolitans who nevertheless have never forgotten their roots. In this diverse concert featuring entirely Finnish music, today’s violin ambassador, the Vienna-based Albert Sahlström, shines as soloist. The entire program is led by Kyösti Vesterinen, who is completing his conducting diploma at the Sibelius Academy.
