Applications for city funding start on 1 March

Published: 8.3.2024

Every year, the City of Vaasa awards several grants to associations, organisations, event organisers, individuals, and artists in various fields. The application is made through an online system.

The March call for applications is open for grants from the City of Vaasa, except for cultural grants. The grants that can be applied between 1 and 31 March are:

  • grants for residents’ associations
  • grants from the welfare section to associations
  • operating grants from the sports services
  • event grants (for events from 1 June to 31 December 2024)
  • operating grants for youth associations; and
  • general grants from the Vähäkyrö Regional Council.

More information on the different grants at vaasa.fi/avustukset. Please read the application instructions carefully on the page for the type of grant you are applying for.

Assistance with making an electronic grant application is available from the Citizen Services, tel. 06 325 1550, and from the Vähäkyrö Joint Service Point, tel. 06 325 8400 – also on the spot and, if necessary, by working together.

The application for cultural grants for 2024 took place already in November 2023, so the next time you can apply for cultural grants will be in November this year.

There are two calls for event grants per year

For autumn 2022, it has been decided to split the application for event grants into two periods. In October 2023, there was a call for events taking place between 1 January and 31 May 2024 and now the March call is for events taking place between 1 June and 31 December 2024.

Important guidelines for applicants for a grant from the Welfare Section

The City Council’s Welfare Section provides grants to associations whose activities support and complement the municipality’s mission to promote health and well-being. For example, the Section provides grants to promote good lifestyles, inclusion, and community, reduce loneliness, strengthen mental well-being skills, and low-threshold leisure activities. It will support activities that are specifically targeted at or sensitive to vulnerable groups.

Applicants should note that the same activity cannot be supported by a welfare region and a municipality. It is also important to note that a Welfare Section grant is applied for a specific activity, which means that it is not a general grant for the association’s activities, nor is it awarded for the association’s administrative costs.

  • In the ‘purpose of use’ section of the online grant application form, please clearly state the purpose of the grant and the estimated costs of using the grant. See the examples for the breakdown of the purpose and costs.
  • If you have applied for a Welfare Section grant in 2023, please return the grant statement as an attachment to the 2024 electronic grant application.
  • See also the factors that will be considered when awarding a grant and examples of activities for which you can apply for a grant from the Welfare Section.
