Apply now for an early childhood education and care placement starting in the spring

Published: 22.9.2025

If your child does not yet have a placement in early childhood education and care (ECEC), but you already know that they will need one from January 2026 because of a parent’s or guardian’s work or studies, we recommend that you apply by the end of October. You should also apply for a transfer to another ECEC unit now.

This will help Early Childhood Education and Care services to plan their activities and allocate placements in line with families’ wishes.

You can apply for an early childhood education and care placement in Vaasa all year round according to your family’s needs. However, if your family already knows that your child will need a placement in the spring, we hope you can submit the application by 31 October.

Apply for a place in early childhood education for your child.

– When we receive as many applications as possible in good time for the spring, we can better plan our activities and, if needed, adjust the structure of the groups, says Maria Karvonen, Service Manager.

Request more than one place in the application

Karvonen advises families to always list more than one placement option in their application.

– You can include up to three requests in the application, and we recommend filling in all of them. In some areas, such as the city centre, placements are harder to obtain, so it is important to list alternative options.

ECEC service coordination is always there to help

Help with applying for a place in early childhood education and care is available, for example from the Service Coordination for Early Childhood Education and Care.

– We advise families on matters related to applications and inform them about the different options available. You can always ring or email us if you have any questions about early childhood education places, says Agneta Brännbacka, Service Coordinator.

Note! Customer service secretaries handle questions related to ECEC customer fees. See contact details and phone times here.

Remember to download the Edlevo App

Vaasa’s early childhood education and care services (ECEC) are gradually moving from other systems to the Edlevo App.

Edlevo is a free digital service for early childhood education and care matters between guardians and ECEC providers in Vaasa. Edlevo can be used on both mobile devices and web browsers.

  • In future, applications for early childhood education and care will be submitted in Edlevo. The change will take place during the autumn, and we will provide more information closer to the time. In future, guardians will be able to accept the proposed ECEC placement for their child in Edlevo and receive electronic decisions directly in the app.
  • When early childhood education begins, guardians should also provide income information via the app.
  • Edlevo will also be used for communication between guardians and ECEC, as well as for notifying care needs during holidays. Guardians who have opted for electronic notifications will receive their child’s support decisions directly in the Edlevo App.

The early childhood education system reform aims to simplify daily routines for families and staff by bringing all functions into one service.
