At Kuula-opisto, students get instruction in string instruments, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, as well as piano, guitar, accordion, and singing. Classical ballet instruction is also given. For the youngest learners, there are music groups and classes that mix dancing and music-making.

Kuula-opisto offers instruction at its premises on Laivakatu in Vaasa, as well as in its Laihia and Isokyrö branches.

TaiKon offers instruction in visual arts, dance, handicrafts, as well as media, circus, and theatre arts for children and youth aged 4–18 at the Vaasa Barracks area.

Both institutes also offer afternoon instruction for first-, second-, and third-graders in Vaasa schools.

What is basic art education?

  • Basic art education is goal-oriented, curriculum-based instruction guided by trained and skilled teachers.
  • The aim is to create a unique artistic path for each child and young person.
  • Children’s and young people’s growth is supported through art in seven different art disciplines: music, dance, visual arts, handicrafts, theatre arts, circus, and media arts.
  • Basic art education is easily accessible as Kuula-opisto and TaiKon do not require entrance exams.
  •   Basic art education can start a path that may lead to lifelong engagement in the arts or various careers in the arts.
