Published: 6.11.2026
Elections for the Vaasa Youth Council will be held on 10–12 November 2026. A total of 32 young people from Vaasa have registered as candidates.
Young people from Vaasa in the 7th grade or above, and up to 20 years old, are eligible to vote.
The list of candidates for the Youth Council elections
– The candidates standing in the Youth Council elections are highly motivated and active young people. Several are running for a second term, while a few are even seeking a third term. It’s great to see so many new candidates joining the race as well, says Jirka Sabel, Youth Coordinator at the City of Vaasa’s Youth Services.
Voting at schools on 10–11 november and at Kultsa on 12 november
The elections will take place in November using an electronic voting system. Kupari explains that this will be the fourth time the Youth Council elections have been conducted electronically.
– Voting will take place electronically at schools on 10–11 November. Eligible students will receive a link by email that they can use to cast their vote. On the third election day, 12 November, it will also be possible to vote in person at Youth Centre Kultsa, Sabel says.
At Kultsa, all eligible young people who have not voted electronically at school can cast their vote, as can young people who are not enrolled at any educational institution. The polling station at Kultsa will be open on 12 November 2026 from 16.00 to 19.00.
A busy year for the current youth council
Youth Council representatives have the right to attend and speak at meetings of the City Council and five different municipal committees. Their role is to make young people’s voices heard, express their views on current issues, and put forward initiatives and statements.
The current Youth Council has had a very active year filled with events. In the spring, an Erasmus+ youth exchange held in Vaasa brought together the youth councils of Vaasa and its twin cities, Kherson in Ukraine and Kiel in Germany.
– The week-long youth exchange was an unforgettable experience for the young participants and marked the culmination of several years of cooperation. In addition, the Youth Council has actively worked with youth councils in neighbouring municipalities, taken part in numerous public discussions and organised a free music event for young people, Sabel says.
A total of 22 full members and 10 deputy members will be elected to the Youth Council. Elections are held every two years.
