Vaasan Lyseon Lukio launches a new LUMA study programme – strengthening Vaasa’s energy education pathway

Applications for the new LUMA study programme at Vaasan Lyseon Lukio, with a special focus on mathematics, natural sciences and technology, will open in next spring’s joint application process. The programme will admit 60 students, with teaching set to begin in August 2027.
Vaasan Lyseon Lukio has been granted permission to launch the new programme, offering students the opportunity to specialise in mathematics, natural sciences, and technology (STEM subjects). This specific educational mission was granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
A strong focus on mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology
Students in the LUMA programme can focus on advanced studies in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology by choosing the school-specific study modules that best match their interests and goals.
Students who successfully complete 24 credits of the programme’s advanced STEM studies may reduce their nationally prescribed compulsory studies by 16 credits, in accordance with the principles laid down for the programme.
