Vaasa’s beaches met all quality standards in the first sampling of the summer

Published: 10.6.2026

The first water samples of the summer season have been taken from Vaasa’s beaches. The water at all tested beaches met the required quality standards. The water temperatures were between 16 and 17 degrees Celsius.

The bathing water samples were collected from the beaches at Hietasaari, Mansikkasaari, Strömsö, Ahvensaari and Kustaanlinna on 3 June 2025.

Samples are taken from five beaches before the official bathing season. These are so-called EU beaches, which are typically popular with swimmers. The water quality of EU-designated beaches is reported to the European Union.

The bathing water at all tested beaches met quality standards, and no blue-green algae were detected. The water temperatures ranged between 14 and 15 degrees Celsius.

Water quality is monitored throughout the summer

In Vaasa and Laihia, the water quality of 11 beaches is monitored during the bathing season from 15 June to 31 August 2026. The next sampling dates are 22 June, 13 July and 3 August.

Two small public swimming beaches have been removed from the swimming beach list in spring 2026: Paratiisisaari (Southern City Bay) and Northern Merikaarto (Kyrönjoki River). These beaches are no longer maintained or supervised, and the quality of their bathing water is no longer monitored. The beaches were removed from the list due to low usage.

You can report bathing water quality issues via the Environmental Health Service’s online reporting service (in Finnish and Swedish).

You can report:

  • any illness or other reaction you suspect was caused by the bathing water
  • any issue or defect you have noticed in the bathing water.
