Contactless Payment in Vaasa Public Transport
Pay for your Vaasa public transport ticket easily, quickly and securely using contactless payment
Contactless payment makes paying for your bus ticket quicker and more convenient. Initially, it is available in zone A and can be used with Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard and Eurocard cards that have contactless functionality. Later, contactless payment will expand to other zones and support Apple Pay and Google Pay.
For now, be prepared to use an alternative payment method
Not all Lifti buses currently have contactless payment readers, as equipment deliveries have been delayed due to a global shortage of components. When boarding a bus, please be prepared to use an alternative payment method. On Lifti services, you can pay with cash, a Waltti travel card or a mobile ticket.
The absence of a contactless payment reader on a bus does not entitle passengers to a free ride, a refund afterwards, or an extension to the validity of tickets purchased using other payment methods.
Contactless payment includes a daily fare cap
A daily fare cap is applied to contactless payments on buses, meaning there is a fixed maximum amount you can be charged between 00.00 and 23.59 each day.
Even if you use your card dozens of times in a day, you will only be charged up to the price of a day ticket for all trips made that day.
Later, the fare cap will be extended from single and day tickets to include weekly tickets.
The fare cap is also the reason why you can only pay for your own trips with contactless payment. Your debit card (bank card) acts as your personal bus ticket. If you wish to pay for several people at once, you can use another bank card, a Waltti card, the Waltti mobile app, or cash.
How to pay for your bus trip with contactless payment
- Select the ’Lähimaksu’ (Contactless Payment) button on the screen.
- In Vaasa, only zone A is available at first, so you don’t need to select zones separately.
- Place your payment card on the reader located to the left of the contactless terminal. If the payment is successful, the device will confirm the travel zone and display an ’OK’ message on the screen.
Price List and Checking Payment Transactions
A single ticket bought with contactless payment in zone A costs €1.80. A day ticket costs €5.40. View the full price list here.
Always pay your bus fare with your payment card when boarding. The system will check if a transfer is still valid and won’t charge a new fare for journeys made within the transfer period.
You can check your payment transactions and print receipts for trips paid with a payment card afterwards at lifti.littlepay.com. To access the customer portal, enter the debit side number of your payment card and complete two-factor authentication.
If there are insufficient funds on your payment card at the time of purchase, the device will not accept it. If the system cannot charge the fare for a completed trip, the card will be blocked and cannot be used again until the unpaid fare has been successfully settled. Once payment is complete, the card can be used for travel as normal.
