Language tests for children applying for Grade 1
In Vaasa, the bilingual (Finnish-English) and English-language teaching lines of the primary school will be arranged at Suvilahden koulu in the 2023-2024 academic year.
The selection criteria of pupils hoping to attend the teaching lines has changed. All children applying for Grade 1 are tested for their language skills. The child’s preschool place is no longer taken into account in the pupil selection.
A child applying for bilingual (Finnish-English) education must know both Finnish and English. The child is required to be able to speak, understand and communicate in both languages. The language test will test the child’s language skills and linguistic capabilities in both languages.
A child applying for English-language teaching must be able to speak English. The language test will test the child’s language skills and linguistic abilities in the English language. Previous knowledge of the Finnish language is not required to geta place on the teaching line. The child’s mother tongue can be Finnish, Swedish or another language.
