Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Site is celebrating 20 years in 2026
The Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Site was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List on July 16th 2006. With this decision, the High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Site now constitutes a transboundary World Heritage Site. The High Coast celebrated its 25th anniversary as a World Heritage Site last year, while we in the Kvarken Archipelago will celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2026.

Being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List is a recognition that highlights the area’s unique natural environment and its great significance for future generations. Together with the High Coast in Sweden, the Kvarken Archipelago forms a shared World Heritage Site where land uplift is more clearly visible than almost anywhere else in the world.
The Kvarken World Heritage Association and the World Heritage Delegation will celebrate throughout the anniversary year. Each World Heritage municipality will host a World Heritage Week filled with events in collaboration with local organizations.
