General information about the teaching provided at TaiKon

Primary registration period

The primary registration period is between 16 April and 15 May 2026. It is also possible to register after this period. The groups are filled in the order of registration. If there are free places in the groups, new pupils can also join in the middle of the term. If a place becomes available, we will contact those on the waiting list by email or by phone.

Registration

There are two ways to register:

• Online
  • Register here (you will find all age groups by clicking on the link).
  • You will find a direct registration link on the page of each artistic subject.
• By registering in person at the TaiKon office at Kasarmi 11, Itäinen Kasarmintori 7–9 ( Book an appointment in advance by e‑mail or phone. The contact details can be found at the bottom of the page.).

Teaching continues automatically in the spring semester if you were registered as a student in the autumn and your place is not cancelled. This does not apply to short early childhood mix courses and applied courses.

The time of the class and the teacher will be announced by the beginning of August. The information will be updated on the registration page group by group. Most classes take place in the evening. Additional information will be sent by email all registered pupils before the classes start.

When registering, please note that schedules and teachers may change.

Prices

• Prices are per course. Prices are listed under each course on the registration page.
• If there are 6 or fewer lessons remaining when registering, the tuition fee is -50 %.
• We reserve the right to make changes to tuition fees.

Payment options

• Tuition fees are paid once a term, in the autumn and in spring. It is not possible to pay for the whole academic year at once.
• You can pay the term fee online at the time of registration or by invoice sent at a later date. The autumn term is invoiced in October-November and the spring term in February. The term fee can also be paid with a gift card for the Alma Adult Education Centre. (Note! You can only pay the course fee with a gift card for the Alma Adult Education Centre at the Alma office at Kirkkopuistikko 15)
• If the course fee is not paid upon registration, an invoice will be sent for the term.
• The course fee cannot be paid upon registration if you are applying for a discount on the term fee.
• Course material costs are included in the term fees.
• Exercise and culture vouchers: Tyky+ vouchers, Smartum, Epassi, and Edenred benefits are personal, so they cannot be used to pay for a child’s participation.

Fee reductions based on the guardian’s circumstances

You may be eligible for a reduction in Kuula-opisto and TaiKon tuition fees in the following circumstances:

Unemployment

A student is entitled to a 100% fee reduction if they are of compulsory school age and their guardian is an unemployed jobseeker receiving the general social security benefit.

What to do:

Please provide proof of your active job-seeking status, together with Kela’s decision on general social security benefit, at the institute’s office during its opening hours no later than one week after the start of teaching

• You cannot pay online if you are entitled to a reduced fee.

Kaikukortti card

A student is entitled to a 50% fee reduction if their guardian holds a Kaikukortti card.

What to do:

Reserve a place online or by telephone and present your Kaikukortti card at the institute’s office during its opening hours before the start of teaching. Please be prepared to prove your identity.

Please note:

• If you fail to present the card, the standard fee will be charged.
• By registering, you accept our general cancellation terms. If you register for instruction and do not cancel in accordance with our cancellation terms, you will be deemed to have used your entitlement to a free course, and your place will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

Sibling discount

When several children from the same family participate in basic education in the arts:

• 10% reduction for the second child;
• 20% reduction for the third child;
• and similarly for each additional child.

Please note:

• Kuula-opisto grants the fee reduction automatically.
• At TaiKon, you can apply for the reduction by stating the grounds for it in the additional information field of the booking system. TaiKon will send you a separate invoice with the sibling discounts deducted.

• You cannot pay online if you are entitled to a reduced fee.
• We will send you an invoice.
• A fee reduction cannot be granted after invoicing.

• Please notify us of withdrawal immediately by e-mail at the following address: taikon@edu.vaasa.fi.
• The withdrawal date is the date on which the teacher was notified of the withdrawal.
• Pupils who withdraw in weeks 3­–6 will be charged 50% of the term fee. Pupils who drop out later will be charged the full fee.
• For early age mix courses (8 sessions in total), there is no fee for those who drop out after the first session. Those who drop out later will be charged the full fee.

The City of Vaasa has a voluntary group accident insurance, which covers the direct medical costs of accidents in basic arts education, and during basic arts education camps and excursions up to 10,000 euros.

The insurance covers immediate medical treatment in both public and private healthcare facilities. In addition, the parents or guardians of a child can take out an additional accident and/or property insurance if they so wish. For example, if a pupil slips and falls on the way to class, the property owner’s/municipality’s liability insurance may apply.

A gift card gives a child or young person positive experiences that will bring long lasting joy.

You can order a printed gift card for an amount of your choice, with a minimum of 21€. The recipient can use the gift card to pay all or part of the course of their choice.

Order the gift card electronically through the TaiKon registration system.

We will send you an invoice for the gift card. You cannot pay for the gift card using an online bank as you set the value of the gift card yourself. We will mail the gift card to the address you have given.

Note! You can only pay the course fee with a gift card at the Alma office at Kirkkopuistikko 15.

After the last academic year, lots of works and found objects were left behind at TaiKon. Are you missing anything?

Works from the previous academic year can be collected at TaiKon Mon-Fri 9.00–15.00. You may wish to bring your child along, as we may not be able to tell which works belong to your child. The lost and found items are in the central corridor at TaiKon, and the art works can be found in front of room 7.
